It's Hard To Get A Good Picture These Days

Today was Wacky Wardrobe day at school. Having no idea what this means, I just dressed the boys in clothes that didn't match. I know...I'm really living on the edge.

Ry was so excited about his outlandish combo of striped shirt and pants with dogs on them that he asked to get his picture taken.

Somewhere along the line, he interpreted "put your arm around Cole for the picture" as "wrap your arm around his neck and hold on tight." He really doesn't mean any harm to Cole - he's honestly just trying to pose. It just always comes out looking a little intense.

Cole started getting a little wiggly and didn't want to pose. Ry was determined to get a good pic and just kept holding on...eventually the wiggling won out and they ended up having an impromptu wrestling match.

I never did get a good picture, but I supopse the memory of my mis-matched boys rolling around on the floor together is good enough.

Spooky Morning

I opened the back door to let Sammie out this morning, and there was smoke rising up off the fence. Not just one part of it..the entire yard was lined with smoke.

So of course, I panicked and assumed that the fence was on fire. Never good in a crisis, I froze on the deck thinking "Do I check out the fire? What if it hurts me? Should I get the kids out of the house? What documents do we need?"

Turns out if was just fog, but still very cool looking.

Ramsey's Halloween Party

It seems like Halloween is a month-long event! From the parade to parties, I'm hoping that the boys will be completely maxed out on sugar (yea right) by November 1st.

Ramsey threw a bash for the kids and it was a hit. Her friend painted faces and her BF played the guitar for an impromptu dance party.

The house was built in 1750 and had such cool details and landscaping. Needless to say, we kept a close eye on Cole...I kept picturing him throwing something through a priceless window pane or breaking an antique built-in.

Here are some pics that Phil took of the outside.

Important Breaking News

The 'stache is gone!!!!!!! Thank you to everyone who supported me during this tough time in my life.

So now that it's all over, I was able to sit and talk with him about the origins of the face catepillar. Here was Phil's slightly mental rationale for the start and end of it all:

Once it was grown, the Phillies won the first game in the World Series. He became convinced that the reason for this win was the moustache, and thusly decided the best thing for the team was to keep it.

After the dissapointing loss last night, he realized that the stache wasn't helping anyone and it was shaved off today.

He now feels that his lack of facial hair will help, and that the Phillies will get back on track and take the rest of the Series.

Halloween Parade

A fireman and a nurse hit the town for the annual Halloween Parade. They were joined by a dinosaur, a Power Ranger, a hippie, and a princess. An evening of strangers pelting you with candy...perfecto.

This Is What I Have To Look Forward To

I Cried Myself To Sleep Last Night

A conversation with Phil last night:

Phil: Do you notice anything different about me?
Bec: Uh, no
Phil: I'm harnessing the power of the stache
Bec: 'Scuse me?
Phil: I've decided to grow a moustache. Oh yea, it's happening.

I'm not sure if he's having a psychotic break or a mid-thirties crisis. If anyone is interested in attending an intervention please give me a call for scheduling.

Bros

So after some serious troubleshooting (i.e. me on my hands and knees behind the desk frantically tugging at wires), I've discovered that the best way to get the scanner working is to turn the power on. I told you I'm sick...you'll have to bear with me.

As promised, here are the school pictures. Clearly the best part is Ry's arm placed lovingly and protectively over Cole's shoulder.

I just picture 5 seconds after this picture was snapped. They smile for the camera and then immediately start wrestling around on the floor...Cole would be the one to have Ry in the headlock, of course.

UPDATE: Debbie just sent me a picture that reminds her of my boys.

Steak, Tater Tots, NYC, and Kisses

This week has been a wild ride. It all started on Tuesday night when Phil and I went out in Philly for our anniversary. We had a gift certificate that was good for any of the Steven Starr restaurants, and we picked Barclay Prime.

Most of you know that a night out for us means a beer and a burger at Iron Hill, so we were very surprised when our waiter welcomed us to the second best steakhouse in the country. He then gave us the specials which included $250 caviar from the Caspian Sea and Kobe Sliders that are on GQ's "20 Hamburgers You Must Eat Before You Die" list.

Feeling a little intimidated by it all, we ordered steak and crabcakes with a side of tater tots. Yes, we ordered tater tots. So the waiter comes back and asks Phil to choose from a selection of steak knives. He starts explaining each one. "The curved handle is handcarved with wood from the rare cocobolococo tree in South America..." Phil chose the coolest looking one.

So after we stuffed our faces, we headed to the Academy of Music to see An Evening With David Sedaris. Faithful readers of this blog know that he's one of my favorite authors, and Phil got us tickets to the show for my birthday.

Needless to say, it was absolutely hysterical. I wasn't so sure I could be entertained by a guy reading out loud to an audience, but he was so funny. I won't bore you with the details, but trust me...it's worth seeing!

So the next night I strapped on my highest of heels and headed to New York for the FFANY Shoes On Sale Event. Still tired from the night before, I found the strength to pull myself together and mingle with the likes of Christian from Project Runway and Reba McIntyre (very random celebrity guest list, I know). It was a great time and between the donations and the live show, we raised a few million dollars for Breast Cancer research.

Then today I woke up with a virus. The worst part isn't my headache or my aching throat...but the fact that Phil has quarantined me from kissing the kids and now it's all I want to do!!!

After eating expensive steak, seeing my favorite author, and having a great night out in NYC, my favorite part of the week was getting the boy's school pictures. They're adorable, especially the one of the 2 of them together. As luck would have it, the scanner isn't working...stay tuned!!

Happy Anniversary

6 glorious years ago, Phil and I were married at The Stone Barn in Chadds Ford, PA. As an anniversary gift, he took the boys back there and surprised me with pictures.

He even set them up to re-enact one of our favorite wedding pictures (same spot...same pose...minus the white dress and tux). I'm not sure who's more adorable...the gorgeous newleyweds or the smiling children.

Helicopters And Plastic Jets

Today was the RotorFest at the American Helicopter Museum. The boys were able to climb into a bunch of helicopters and try out the controls.

They also had an air show with people jumping out of planes with parachutes and helicopters doing a bunch of maneuvers. After sitting in million dollar machines and watching people free fall from the sky, Ry announced that his favorite part of the day was winning the $3 blow-up jet plane on the way out. Well worth the price of admission!!

Cole Is Cute

Friends

The gang from NY came down for a few days to visit. Graham took to the chaos quite well and immersed himself into the life of our 2 energetic boys. Bottom line...no one got hurt and we had a great time!!

By The Way . . .

My favorite painting at the Art Museum was Winslow Homer's "Winter Coast." Surprisingly, the armor room is still really cool - PK
